NÄR LJUSET SLÄCKT HIMLEN (KONSTRUKTION #2, NORRSKEN), 2009
/ WHEN THE LIGHT HAS SWITCHED OFF THE SKY (CONSTRUCTION #2, NORTHERN LIGHTS), 2009
A light installation made in collaboration with Cecilia Eklind, Cecilia Gustafsson and Nanette Hjortsberg, students at Lighting Design, School of Engineering at Jönköping University, Sweden. Katja Aglert gave the students an assignment to construct a Northern Light, based on their idea of what such phenomena would look like in reality. Neither of the students had seen a Northern Light in real life. As part of the project Katja Aglert produced a printed matter which were available for free outside Konsthall 1.0. This printed matter functioned both as a multiple, independent of the context it was displayed in, and as an introduction to the point of departures for the project.
Darkness, a requisite to see. Imagine a future where the night sky is no longer possible to see as a result of all the artificial lights leaking into the sky. This is already a reality in many urban environments globally. There are people of today who have never seen stars in real life. For a future generation the moon and the stars might be reduced to something only told about in history books and spread by word of mouth? The point of departure for this project is a hypothetical future scenario, where we devote ourselves to the act of re-constructing the natural phenomena we impoverished.
When The Light Has Switched Off The Sky, were on display at Konsthall 1.0, Jönköping, Sweden, 2009. Produced by Kultur Jönköpings kommun.
